After Christmas, Christmas Anyone?

Dan and I were shopping at Target this past Monday night when all of a sudden this lady exclaims, "Dan!" and of course we both turn and look but she was not addressing my husband but her own which was funny all in itself...

The conversation continues as she is standing by the DVD/TV series section and it went something like this:

"Dan!"

"What?"

"You were right, look at this!"

"Huh..."

"Can you believe I paid $44.00 for this and now it's $14.99!"

Silence.

"Holy (expletive/you fill in the blank)!!"

So of course my Dan and I had to wander over and look for ourselves what was so highly priced and now so greatly reduced.  It was Season One of Glee.  We strolled away with Will and just kind of looked at each other in amazement.  We the consumers must be dumb.  That lady should have exchanged her now expensive gift and gotten her money back-but as we all know...once any type of DVD, CD, Blu-Ray or game is opened we are NOT allowed to return it.

So let's get smart here people.  Why don't we start having our Christmas AFTER the actual Christmas?  Think of all the deals!!  You could get DOUBLE the presents...possibly even TRIPLE if you know where to shop!

Who's with me?!

From Christmas Past to Christmas Present

Okay...so I succumbed.  I am now blogging.  There were so many outside influences that I decided why not give it a try.

So here is our blog.  I'm going to encourage Dan to write on this as well-he has way more interesting days than I do.  Sometimes.

Don't get me wrong-some of my days are very interesting.  There have been times when I have been on the phone with my mom and I have told her that I now live in a nut house.  I did say that lovingly though-I wouldn't trade in my crazy days for anything.

I guess I should introduce myself and my family...Dan is my hubby of six years.  We have been friends since Junior High and when we decided to start dating in college it was a very easy for me to know right away that he was the man I was going to marry.  Dan is finishing up his Master's degree in School Administration and will hopefully be an Elementary Principal in the near future.  Right now he is a Residential Site Manager for men with severe Autism.  I am so thankful for his job every day-I know it is so hard for him to get out of bed in the mornings and go to a job that is demanding, thankless, and not what he is passionate about.  He is my hero though for providing for our family and for being such a hard-worker.  I have the privilege of staying home with our almost 7 month old son William Daniel (Will for short)!  And lets not forget our Yorkie, Beesley.  She would be upset if I left her out.

I was thinking about where Dan and I were last Christmas and how different it is from this year.  We had just moved to Buffalo and I was three and a half months pregnant, Dan was unemployed and we were living with his sister.

So here we are in Buffalo, NY after spending five years together in sunny Florida.  Did/do I miss Florida?  YES...for the following reasons.

1.  Um, the sun and beach. Duh.

2.  My lovely friends we left behind...the Burgess', Thompson's, Moore's, Orlando's Shifflett's...the list could go on and on.

3.  Our gorgeous house.

4.  Did I mention the weather?

5.  Chik-Fil-A, Bagel, Bagel, One Fresh Stir-Fry, and The Red Elephant-all fantastic restaurants

6.  Saturday College Football Craziness!!!

So why leave after the six awesomely mentioned above were factors?  At the end of our fifth year in Florida we decided to go and live in Virginia for a short stint while Dan was working on his Master's degree and I was going to start an all-star cheerleading gym.  Well...things didn't work out very well with the gym and I found out I was pregnant and so we had a decision to make.  We decided to move back closer to our families so Will would know his relatives. While in VA I did make some fantastic friends and I was able to coach an AWESOME group of girls! :)

So do I love living in Buffalo?  YES!  Why do you say?

1.  We now have Will :)  I have to say that if we were still in Florida I doubt very much that we would have our wonderful son.

2.  Our families are here. Or at least at a better driving distance.

3.  The Chapel (our church) and my MOPS group and the friends we are slowly making.

4.  Our cozy apartment.

5.  The fantastic restaurants that are too many to list.

6.  Buffalo hospitality (this is totally different from Southern hospitality) and only Buffalo people know what I am talking about.

Here we are-at the end of December and a year has passed.

Yes, we have gotten dumped on with snow.

Yes, Dan was saying the whole time "I miss Florida" while shoveling out our cars amidst three feet of snow.

Yes, we have had a difficult time adjusting and if it wasn't for our families I might be in a straight-jacket locked in a padded room right about now.

But has God been with us every step of the way?

YES, YES, a thousand times YES.

So this Christmas I have a lot to reflect on and be grateful for-and I know that CHRIST is in my Christmas and He has been with me every step of the way since last Christmas-and even before.
